Can BreederBuddy predict puppy coat colors?
Yes. The Genetics Forecast feature calculates probable coat color and trait outcomes for any planned pairing. It shows probability ranges for each possible outcome, including when genetic testing is incomplete — so you know exactly what you might get and with what likelihood.
What is COI in dog breeding, and how does BreederBuddy calculate it?
COI stands for Coefficient of Inbreeding — a measure of how genetically related a dog's parents are. A higher COI increases the risk of inherited health issues. BreederBuddy calculates COI automatically from your pedigree data and lets you preview the COI for any hypothetical pairing before you breed.
What genetic loci does BreederBuddy track?
BreederBuddy tracks 13 loci: E, K, A, B, D, CO, C, I, S, M, L, F, and CU. This covers coat color, texture, pattern, and size traits for the vast majority of breeds, including complex scenarios like M locus merle and expanded E locus.
What if I don't have complete genetic testing data for a dog?
BreederBuddy handles incomplete data gracefully. It distinguishes between lab-tested results, inferred genetics (based on phenotype or known parentage), and unknown data. Forecasts display probability ranges instead of false certainty, so you always know how confident the prediction is.
Can I share pedigrees with buyers?
Yes. Every pedigree can be shared via a public link or exported as a printable PDF. You can also include a buyer-friendly genetic summary that explains the dog's traits in plain language.
Does BreederBuddy support genetics tracking for cat breeders?
Yes. BreederBuddy supports cat breeding programs as well as dog breeding. Genetics and pedigree tools are available for both. You can switch your program type in Settings > Preferences.
