Buddy, Your AI Assistant

Video walkthrough: Watch on Loom (link coming soon)

Buddy is the AI assistant built into BreederBuddy. Ask it a question in plain words, like “Who’s coming into heat soon?” or “Who still owes me a deposit?”, and it looks through your own records and answers in seconds. It can also walk you through how any part of the app works, and read your files to bring records in for you.

What You Can Do Here

  • Ask about any dog, litter, contact, or waitlist by name
  • Get a prioritized “what do I need to do today?” briefing
  • Check heat cycles, progesterone results, whelping watch, and projected due and go-home dates
  • Look up pedigrees, genetics, inbreeding (COI) for a pairing, and possible sire matches
  • Answer money questions: revenue, deposits, who owes you, expenses, and profit
  • See your numbers as charts
  • Ask “how do I…?” and get steps from this help center
  • Drop a file on Buddy and have it pull the records into your account (you review everything first)
  • Ask for a website change, and Buddy takes it to Edit your website for you

How It Works

Opening Buddy

You can open Buddy three ways:
  1. From the top of any page. On a computer, click the Ask Buddy… box in the top bar and type your question. On a phone or small screen, tap the Buddy logo in the top bar.
  2. With the keyboard. Press Ctrl+K (or Cmd+K on a Mac) from anywhere in the app. Press it again, or press Esc, to close Buddy.
  3. From your Dashboard. Buddy sits at the top of your Dashboard. Use the arrow button in its top right corner (Minimize Buddy / Expand Buddy) to fold it up or open it again.
You can also click Ask Buddy what to focus on today in the Daily Check-In window.

Asking a Question

  1. Open Buddy.
  2. Type your question in the box at the bottom, where it says Ask Buddy anything…
  3. Press Enter, or click the paper-plane button, to send it.
  4. Buddy shows Thinking… while it looks through your records, then writes its answer.
Not sure where to start? Click one of the suggested questions that show when a conversation is empty.

Helpful Extras

  • Mention a record with @. Type @ and the start of a name, then pick a dog, litter, or contact from the list. Buddy then knows exactly which one you mean.
  • Click names in answers. When Buddy mentions a dog, litter, contact, or waitlist, the name is a link. Click it to open that record.
  • Talk instead of type. Click the microphone button in the message box to use voice input (in browsers that support it).
  • Follow-up suggestions. After many answers, Buddy shows two or three follow-up questions you can click.
  • Copy or redo an answer. Use the Copy and Regenerate buttons under an answer.
  • Stop an answer. Click the stop button while Buddy is writing.
  • Shortcuts. Type /help to see what Buddy can do, /snapshot for a program overview, /who and a name (for example, /who Bourbon) to look up a dog, or /clear to start a fresh conversation.

Past Conversations

Buddy saves your conversations so you can pick up where you left off.
  1. Open Buddy and click the Past conversations button at the top of the Buddy panel.
  2. A list of your past chats opens. Use Search conversations… to find one.
  3. Click a conversation to reopen it.
  4. To start fresh, click New conversation.
  5. To delete one, click the trash icon next to it and confirm.
Your conversations are private to your login. Teammates on your account don’t see them.

What Buddy Can Do

Buddy reads your BreederBuddy records and answers from them. Here are some questions that work well:

Bringing In Files

Buddy can also read your files (spreadsheets, registration papers, health test results, vet records, pedigree charts) and turn them into records. On your Dashboard, drop a file onto Buddy’s chat, or click the paperclip button in Buddy’s message box. Nothing is saved until you review it and click Approve & Import. See Buddy Intake for the full walkthrough.

What Buddy Can’t Do

Buddy is here to look things up, explain, and import files you approve. It doesn’t change your records on its own. That means Buddy can’t:
  • Add, edit, or delete a dog, litter, contact, or any other record (except through a file import you approve)
  • Send emails or texts to your buyers
  • Mark an invoice or payment as paid
  • Create calendar events or reminders
  • Approve an import for you. Only you can, by clicking Approve & Import on the review screen.
If you ask for one of these, Buddy tells you where to do it in the app. Want to change your BreederBuddy website? Ask Buddy, and it hands your request to Edit your website, where you see each change before it happens and can undo it. Buddy can change almost anything there: headings and buttons, a news bar across the top, colors, fonts and your logo, your menu, photos, pages, blog posts, your forms’ questions, and your puppies’ status and prices. Not sure what to change? Ask “What should I do to improve my website?” and Buddy takes that to Edit your website too. See Edit Your Website. Buddy only answers questions about your breeding program and how to use BreederBuddy.

When Buddy Isn’t Sure

Buddy is told to stick to your real records and to this help center, not to guess. If it can’t find an answer, it says so and points you to our team. Click the chat bubble in the bottom right corner of your screen to reach a real person.
