# Login & Account Access

> Can't log in to BreederBuddy? Which sign-in method to use (Continue with Google or email and password), getting back in after our sign-in update, data missing after signing up again with a new account, joining an existing account, a forgotten password, a reset email that didn't arrive, an expired sign-in link, a lost two-factor (2FA) phone, Google sign-in problems, changing your email, and adding or inviting a team member whose invite never came.

# Login & Account Access

Locked out, or trying to get a teammate in? Find your situation below. Each section tells you what to check first and how to fix it. You can always sign in at [**app.breederbuddy.com/login**](https://app.breederbuddy.com/login).

***

## I Can't Log In

**What to check:** read the red message under the **Sign in** button. It tells you what went wrong.

| Message you see | What it means and what to do |
| - | - |
| "Email or password is incorrect." | Your password doesn't match. Check for typos, or reset it (see the next section). |
| "No account found for that email." | There's no BreederBuddy login for that address. Try another email you might have used. |
| "Too many attempts. Please wait and try again." | You've been locked out for a short while after too many tries. Wait a few minutes, then try once more. |
| "Network error. Check your connection and try again." | Your internet dropped. Reconnect and try again. |
| "Sign-in succeeded but your browser did not keep the session." | Your browser blocked the sign-in cookie. See the fix below. |

**If you created your account with Google:** click **Continue with Google** instead of typing a password. Accounts made with Google don't have a BreederBuddy password unless you set one.

**If you're signing in from a Facebook or Instagram link:** those apps open pages in their own built-in browser, which can't keep you signed in and doesn't allow Google sign-in. BreederBuddy shows a notice asking you to reopen the page in Safari or Chrome. Do that, then sign in.

**If the page signs you in and then bounces you back to the sign-in screen:**

1. Make sure you're on **[https://app.breederbuddy.com](https://app.breederbuddy.com)** (with the "https").
2. Turn off private or incognito browsing for this site, or use a normal window.
3. Make sure your browser allows cookies for breederbuddy.com.
4. Try again. You'll land on your **Dashboard** when it works.

***

## Which Sign-In Method Should I Use? (Google or Email and Password)

BreederBuddy finds your account by your **email address**, not by the button you click. As long as you use the same email you've always used with BreederBuddy, you land in your own account with all your dogs, litters, and contacts.

* **Your BreederBuddy email is a Gmail or Google address:** click **Continue with Google** and pick that same Google account. No password needed.
* **Any other email (for example, your kennel or business email):** type it in **Email address**, type your password, and click **Sign in**.

Both ways open the same account when the email matches. If you're not sure which email you used, look at an old BreederBuddy email in your inbox to see which address it was sent to.

### We Updated Our Sign-In and My Old Login Doesn't Work

If you used BreederBuddy before our sign-in update and your old password no longer works, you don't need to start over. Your records are still there.

1. Go to [**app.breederbuddy.com/login**](https://app.breederbuddy.com/login).
2. If your email is a Google address, click **Continue with Google** and choose that account. You're done.
3. Otherwise, type your email in **Email address** and click **Forgot your password?** Set a new password from the email, then sign in.
4. If no reset email arrives after a few minutes (check spam too), click **Need an account? Create one** at the bottom of the sign-in page.
5. Enter **the exact same email** you used before in **Email address**, type a new password (at least 8 characters) in **Password** and **Confirm password**, and click **Create account**.
6. BreederBuddy connects your new login to your existing account. You'll see your own Dashboard with your dogs and records, not an empty account.

If step 5 says "An account with that email already exists," click **Sign in instead** and use **Forgot your password?** with that email.

### I Signed Up Again and My Data Is Missing

Signing up again with the **same** email always opens your existing account, so an empty account means a **different** email was used (for example, a Gmail address instead of your kennel email, or a Google account other than the one you meant to pick).

1. On a computer, look at the **top right** corner. Next to your logo you'll see the name or email you're signed in with, and "Admin of" your kennel name. On a phone, open [**Settings → User Administration**](https://app.breederbuddy.com/settings?tab=user%20administration) instead: the **Team Members** list shows the email of every login on the account you're in.
2. If that isn't the email you've always used, click your picture in the **top right**, then click **Log out**.
3. Sign in again with your original email, using the steps above.
4. Your dogs, litters, and contacts are back.

Can't remember which email you used, or you'd like the extra empty account removed? Message us in the chat in the bottom right corner and we'll look it up for you.

### Joining Someone Else's Account Instead of Creating Your Own

If you help run another breeder's program, don't create your own account. Ask the account owner to invite you from **Settings → User Administration** (see [Adding a Team Member](#adding-a-team-member) below), then create your login from their invite email using the exact address they invited, within 24 hours.

## I Forgot My Password

1. Go to [**app.breederbuddy.com/login**](https://app.breederbuddy.com/login).
2. Type your email in the **Email address** box. (Leave the password blank.)
3. Click **Forgot your password?** just under the password box.
4. You'll see a green message: "If an account exists for that email, a reset link has been sent."
5. Open the email, click the link, and choose a new password.
6. Go back to the sign-in page and sign in with the new password.

If you click **Forgot your password?** before typing your email, you'll see "Enter your email first, then tap Forgot password." Type your email, then click it again.

### The Reset Email Didn't Arrive

1. Wait a few minutes, then check your **spam** or **junk** folder, and the **Promotions** tab if you use Gmail.
2. Make sure you typed the same email you signed up with. For privacy, the message looks the same whether or not an account exists, so a typo won't show an error.
3. If you signed up with Google, you don't need a reset. Use **Continue with Google**.
4. Still nothing? Message us through the chat bubble in the bottom right corner of the sign-in page.

## My Sign-In Link Expired or Didn't Work

Some BreederBuddy welcome emails include a one-tap sign-in button. You don't need to request these, and you can't ask for a new one. Your email and password always work instead.

* **"This sign-in link has expired"** means the links only work for 7 days. Click **Go to sign in** and sign in with your email and password.
* **"Sign in with your password"** means your account has two-factor authentication turned on, so email links can't sign you in. Use your email, password, and the text code.
* **"We couldn't sign you in here"** means your browser didn't keep the sign-in. Click **Go to sign in** and use your email and password.

***

## Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Problems

When 2FA is on, BreederBuddy texts a 6-digit code to your phone after you enter your password.

**The code didn't arrive:** wait a minute, then click **Back to sign in** and sign in again to get a new code. Make sure your phone has signal.

**"Incorrect code. Please try again."** Check the 6 digits and re-type them.

**"That code expired. Go back and sign in again."** Click **Back to sign in** and start over. You'll get a fresh code.

**I lost my phone or changed my number:** there are no backup codes, so you can't get past the code step on your own. Message us through the chat bubble in the bottom right corner of the sign-in page, or email [support@breederbuddy.com](mailto:support@breederbuddy.com), and we'll help you get back in.

**Changing phones soon?** While you can still sign in, go to [**Settings → Two-Factor Auth**](https://app.breederbuddy.com/settings?tab=two-factor%20auth), click **Remove two-factor authentication**, then turn it back on with your new number. Full steps are in [Two-Factor Authentication](https://breederbuddy.com/docs/features/account-team/mfa.md).

## Changing Your Email Address

You can't change your sign-in email yourself right now. Message us through the chat and tell us your current email and the new one, and we'll update it for you.

**Want to move the account owner (Admin) to a different email yourself?** Your subscription and records belong to the kennel account, not to one login, so you can hand the Admin role to a new email:

1. Invite the new email as a team member (see [Adding a Team Member](#adding-a-team-member) below). The new email must not already have its own BreederBuddy login.
2. Sign up from the invite email using that new address.
3. Signed in as the original Admin, open [**Settings → User Administration**](https://app.breederbuddy.com/settings?tab=user%20administration) and change the new login's role to **Admin** in the dropdown next to it.
4. If you no longer want the old login, sign in with the new email, change the old login's role to **Secondary user**, then click the trash icon next to it.

You **can** change your name and phone number yourself:

1. Click your picture or name in the **top right** corner.
2. Click **Settings**.
3. Open the **My Profile** tab ([direct link](https://app.breederbuddy.com/settings?tab=my%20profile)).
4. Update **First Name**, **Last Name**, or **Phone Number** and click **Save**. You'll see "Profile updated."

***

## Adding a Team Member

Team members get their own login to your account. Only invite people you trust.

1. Click your picture or name in the **top right** corner, then **Settings**.
2. Under **Team**, open **User Administration** ([direct link](https://app.breederbuddy.com/settings?tab=user%20administration)).
3. Click **Invite User** at the top right of the page.
4. Type their email in **User Email** and click **Save**.
5. You'll see "Invite sent!" and their email shows up under **Pending & Past Invites** as **Pending**.

Tell them to:

1. Open the invite email ("You're invited to collaborate with \[your kennel] on BreederBuddy").
2. Click the sign-up button in that email.
3. Create their account using **the exact email address you invited**. A different address creates a separate, empty account instead of joining yours.

When they've joined, the invite changes to **Accepted** and they appear in your **Team Members** list as a **Secondary user**.

**What team members can do:** secondary users can't open the Stripe dashboard or the Income Report. You choose what else they can see with the **User Roles** switches on the same page. To give someone full access, change their role to **Admin** using the dropdown next to their name.

### The Invite Never Arrived or Expired

Invites only last **24 hours**.

1. Ask them to check spam, junk, and the Gmail Promotions tab.
2. Check the email you typed under **Pending & Past Invites**. If it's wrong, click **Revoke** and invite the right address.
3. If the invite says **Expired**, click **Invite User** and invite the same email again. A fresh 24-hour invite goes out.
4. Ask them to **log out of BreederBuddy** on the device they'll use before they accept the invite.

**"A user with this email already exists."** That email already has its own BreederBuddy login, so it can't be invited to yours. Ask your teammate to use a different email address for your account.

**"An invite has already been sent to this email."** There's already a pending invite. Ask them to look for it, or wait for it to expire and send a new one.

### Removing a Team Member

On **User Administration**, click the trash icon next to their name. The account owner (Admin) can't be removed this way.

## Can I Switch Between Two BreederBuddy Accounts?

Not inside the app. Each email address belongs to one BreederBuddy account, and each account is one breeding program with its own subscription and website. If you run or help run a second kennel program, it needs its own account with a different email. To move between them, click your picture or name in the **top right** → **Log out**, then sign in with the other email. Questions about billing for a second program? Ask us in the chat.

## Common Questions

> **Can I chat with support if I'm locked out?**
>
> Yes. The chat bubble in the bottom right corner works on the sign-in page too. You can also email [support@breederbuddy.com](mailto:support@breederbuddy.com).

> **My teammate signed up but they see an empty account.**
>
> They most likely signed up with a different email than the one you invited, or after the 24-hour invite expired. Message us in the chat and we'll help sort it out.

> **Why does it ask me to sign in again?**
>
> For security, sign-ins don't last forever. Every so often BreederBuddy asks you to sign in again. Clearing your browser's cookies or using private browsing also signs you out.

> **How do I delete my account?**
>
> Go to [**Settings → My Profile**](https://app.breederbuddy.com/settings?tab=my%20profile) and click **Delete my account** at the bottom. If you're the owner, this cancels your subscription, takes your website offline, and removes every login, so if you only want to stop paying, cancel from **Settings → Subscription** instead. If a team member does this, only their own login is removed.
