# Products

> Save reusable invoice items like puppy deposits, purchase prices, stud fees, shipping, and training packages in your Products & Services catalog so you can add them to any invoice in one click, with the right price and tax every time.

# Products

***

Products is your reusable item catalog for invoicing. Instead of typing the same line items every time you create an invoice (puppy purchase, deposit, training package, etc.), you save them as products and add them to invoices in one click.

***

## What You Can Do Here

* Create reusable products with a name, default price, currency, and description
* Add products to any invoice as line items
* Choose whether your default tax rate applies when a product is used
* Keep a price history and add extra price options (when Stripe is connected)
* Archive products you no longer offer without changing past invoices

***

## How It Works

### Creating a Product

1. In the left menu, open **Finances** and click [**Products**](https://app.breederbuddy.com/products). You'll see the **Products & Services** page.
2. Click **Create product** (top right).
3. Enter a **Name** (for example, "Puppy Deposit").
4. Enter the **Default price** and pick the currency next to it.
5. Add a **Description** if you like (what's included, key dates, reminders).
6. Click **Save product**. The product now appears in your **Catalog** and in the invoice builder.

### Using a Product on an Invoice

1. While creating or editing an invoice, click the **Find or add item** box under **Add another item**.
2. Start typing the product name, then click it in the list.
3. The name, description, and price fill in for you. You can still change them on that one invoice.

Don't see it? Click **Add a new item** at the bottom of that list to create a product on the spot, or **Manage products** to jump to your catalog.

### Editing a Product

1. On the **Products** page, find the product in your **Catalog**.
2. Click **Manage product**.
3. Change the **Name** or **Description**, or tick **Apply default tax rate when this product is used**.
4. Click **Save changes**. Changes only affect future invoices — existing invoices stay the same.

If you've connected Stripe, the same panel shows the product's **Price history** and lets you **Add another price option** (then click **Add price**). Without Stripe, you'll see a note asking you to connect it for price history and tax syncing.

### Archiving a Product

If you stop offering something, click **Archive** on the product. It's hidden from your catalog and the invoice picker, but past invoices stay intact. Tick **Show archived** at the top of the catalog to see archived products.

## Tips & Common Questions

> **What is the Products section for? Do I need it to send invoices?**
>
> No, it's optional. **Products** is a shortcut list of things you charge for often, like a puppy deposit or stud fee. Save an item once and you can drop it into any invoice with the right name, price, and tax. You can always type line items straight onto an invoice instead.

> **Can I change the price when adding a product to an invoice?**
>
> Yes — the product price is a default. You can change it on any individual invoice.

> **If I change a product's price, will my old invoices change?**
>
> No. Changes you make on the **Products** page only affect invoices you create afterwards.

> **Why can't I add another price option?**
>
> Extra price options and price history need Stripe connected. Set it up first — see [Payments Setup](https://breederbuddy.com/docs/features/buyer-sales-management/payments-setup.md).

> **What happens to old invoices if I archive a product?**
>
> Nothing — archiving only affects future invoices. Existing invoices with that product are unaffected.
