# Care Schedules

> Build reusable care schedule templates for your litters and dogs (deworming, vaccines, vet visits by week) and apply them in seconds. Who gets task email notifications, setting the reminder time, staggering start dates across dogs, monthly or yearly recurring care, and removing duplicate tasks from a schedule applied twice.

Care Schedules are reusable task templates you build once and apply to any litter. Instead of manually creating the same events (vet visits, deworming, socialization milestones, etc.) every time a new litter arrives, you set up a schedule template and apply it in seconds.

***

## What You Can Do Here

* Start from a ready-made template — vaccination and deworming, wellness, parasite prevention, grooming, and more
* Build reusable care schedule templates with a list of tasks and timing
* Apply a schedule to any litter to auto-generate its tasks as events
* Set tasks to trigger at specific intervals (e.g., "Day 14 — First deworming")
* Edit, rename, or delete schedule templates as your protocol changes
* Search, filter by type (Dog or Litter), sort, and drag to reorder your saved schedules
* Log one shot, worming, or grooming you already gave to many adult dogs at once with **Log Care**

## How It Works

### Starting from a Template

The fastest way to your first schedule is a starter template:

1. Go to [**Care Schedules**](https://app.breederbuddy.com/schedules) in the left menu (under **Events**) and click **Create Care Schedule** (or **Browse templates** if your list is empty).
2. Pick a template — puppy vaccination and deworming, annual wellness, monthly parasite prevention, a grooming cycle, heat-to-whelping, or socialization — and click **Use this template**.
3. Review the tasks before anything is created: untick tasks you don't need, rename them, or adjust their day numbers to match your vet's guidance.
4. Confirm, and the schedule is created with those tasks, ready to apply.

Templates are common starting points, not veterinary advice — always review the timing and products with your vet.

### Creating a Care Schedule from Scratch

1. Go to **Care Schedules** in the left menu.
2. Click **Create Care Schedule**, then choose **Start from a blank care schedule**.
3. Fill in the **Schedule Name** (e.g., "Standard Puppy Protocol"), pick the **Type** — **Dog** (applies to individual dogs) or **Litter** (applies to a whole litter) — and add a **Description** if you like.
4. On the new schedule's **Tasks** tab, click **Add New Task** for each item. Every task has a **Task Title**, a **Task Type**, **Days from start** (e.g., 14 for "Day 14 — first deworming"), optional **Notes / Dosage**, and an **Email Notification?** checkbox if you want an email reminder for it.
5. Tasks group themselves under **Day** headers so you can see the whole protocol at a glance.

### Applying a Schedule to a Litter (or Dogs)

Schedules never apply themselves — you apply one when a litter is born:

1. Open the litter and go to its **Events** tab, then click **Apply Schedule to this Litter**. (Or start from the schedule itself: open it under **Care Schedules** and click **Apply Schedule To A Litter** — picking the litter auto-fills the start date with its date of birth.)
2. Set the **Start Date** — that's Day 0, usually the whelping date.
3. Confirm. Every task becomes a calendar event on the litter, timed from the start date.

Dog-type schedules work the same way from a dog's **Events** tab (**Apply Schedule to this Dog**), or from the schedule page with **Apply Schedule To Dogs**, where you can select several dogs at once.

### How Schedule Tasks Become Calendar Events

* Each task becomes one event, dated **Days from start** after the **Start Date** you pick when you apply the schedule. Count weeks in days: week 2 is 14, week 3 is 21, week 4 is 28, and so on.
* Every event uses the **time of day** from the **Start Date**. To get reminders at a different time, change the time in **Start Date** when you apply the schedule (for example, 8:00 AM).
* The event's **Type** comes from the task's **Task Type**, so it shows in that color on your [**Calendar**](https://app.breederbuddy.com/calendar).
* A litter schedule puts its events on the litter, not on each puppy.
* After applying, you can still edit, complete, or delete each event on its own. Changes you make to the schedule's tasks also flow through: see **Editing a Schedule** below.

### Who Gets the Email Reminders

Tasks with **Email Notification?** ticked send one email at the event's start time. The email goes to the email address of the person who created that task on the schedule, whoever applies the schedule later. To have someone else get a task's reminders, have that team member add the task while signed in to their own login.

### Separate Deworming and Vaccine Tasks by Week

Add each dose as its own task so each gets its own reminder:

1. Open the schedule and go to its **Tasks** tab.
2. Click **Add New Task**.
3. Enter a **Task Title** like "Deworming, week 2", pick the **Task Type** (for example, **Prevention / Deworming**), and set **Days from start** to 14.
4. Save, then repeat for each dose: "Deworming, week 4" at 28, "First vaccine, week 6" at 42, and so on.

Tasks with a health **Task Type** (like **Vaccination** or **Prevention / Deworming**) can create a health record when you mark the event complete.

### Staggering Start Dates for Different Dogs

**Apply Schedule To Dogs** uses one **Start Date** for every dog you pick. To give each dog its own start date, apply the schedule from each dog instead: open the dog, go to its **Events** tab, click **Apply Schedule to this Dog**, and set that dog's **Start Date**.

### Logging a Shot or Worming You Already Gave to Many Dogs

Schedules plan care that is still ahead. For care that already happened kennel-wide (a round of vaccines, a worming day, nail trims), click **Log Care** at the top of **Care Schedules**. Tick the adult dogs it applies to, pick the record type (Vaccination, Prevention / Deworming, Grooming, and so on), enter the date and details once, and one health record is saved to every dog you picked. The records show up on each dog's **Health** tab.

You can also start from any one dog: add the record on its **Health** tab, then click **Log this for more dogs** at the bottom of the form and check off the rest. For a litter's puppies, do the same from the litter's **Puppies** tab with **Add Bulk Health Records**.

### Repeating Monthly or Yearly Care

Care schedule tasks happen once each, counted from the start date. For care that repeats with no end (monthly heartworm, yearly vaccines), create a **Recurring Event?** on the dog from the [Calendar](https://breederbuddy.com/docs/features/care-operations/calendar.md) instead. Or use a **Dog** schedule with tasks at 0, 30, 60, 90 days and so on. The **Monthly Parasite Prevention** template sets this up for 12 months.

### Removing Duplicate Tasks (Applied a Schedule Twice)

If you applied the same schedule twice by accident, you'll see every task twice. To remove one full copy:

1. Open the litter or dog and go to its **Events** tab.
2. Click one of the duplicated events to open it.
3. Click **Delete All Tasks From This Schedule** at the bottom of the window and confirm.
4. You'll see "All tasks from this schedule were deleted." Only the tasks from that one application are removed. The other copy and your other events stay.

### Cleaning Up an Old Litter's Tasks

For a litter whose tasks are long past, open the litter's **Events** tab and either mark the events done (click an event on the Calendar, then **Complete**), or remove them all at once with **Delete All Tasks From This Schedule** as above. Tick **Upcoming Only** on the **Events** tab to hide past events.

### Editing a Schedule

1. Open the schedule from the **Care Schedules** page.
2. On the **Tasks** tab, use **Edit** or **Delete** on any task, or **Add New Task**.
3. Changes sync to litters and dogs the schedule is already applied to: a new task adds its event, an edited task updates its pending event, and a deleted task removes it. Events you've already marked complete are never touched, and a schedule you detached from a litter stays detached.

When deleting a whole schedule, BreederBuddy asks whether to **Keep Events** already created from it or **Delete Events Too**.

## Tips & Common Questions

> **Can I change the default follow-up time for vaccines and dewormer?**
>
> The suggested follow-up after logging a health record (2 weeks for deworming, 1 year for vaccines) can't be changed, but you can change the date each time before saving. For a puppy series with set weeks, a care schedule with one task per dose is easier. See [Calendar](https://breederbuddy.com/docs/features/care-operations/calendar.md).

> **Can I apply the same schedule to multiple litters?**
>
> Yes — schedule templates are reusable. You can apply the same template to every litter.

> **What happens to the events after I apply a schedule?**
>
> Events appear on the litter's **Events** tab and on your main **Calendar**. You can edit or delete individual events after they're created without affecting the template.

> **Can I have different schedules for different breeds or litter types?**
>
> Yes — create as many schedule templates as you need. For example, a standard puppy schedule, a guardian placement checklist, or a breed-specific health protocol.

> **Can I change a starter template after creating from it?**
>
> Yes — a schedule created from a template is fully yours. Edit, add, or delete its tasks like any other schedule. And the review step before creation lets you untick or re-date tasks up front.
