# Calendar

> Use the BreederBuddy calendar to see only due dates, hide birthdays, understand event colors, make monthly or yearly recurring care reminders, set vaccine and dewormer follow-up reminders, and see vet appointments, heat cycles, breeding dates, due dates, puppy go-home days, and dog birthdays in one place, set email reminders and recurring events, and sync to Google Calendar or Apple Calendar.

# Calendar

> **Video walkthrough:** [Watch on Loom](#) *(link coming soon)*

***

Calendar is your central view of everything happening in your program — vet appointments, breeding dates, puppy pick-ups, socialization milestones, and any other events you schedule. It pulls together events from all your dogs and litters into one place.

***

## What You Can Do Here

* Switch between Month, Week, Day, and Agenda views
* Add new events by clicking any day, dragging across a time range, or using **New Event**
* Drag events to reschedule them, or drag their edges to change how long they run
* Search events and filter by a specific dog or litter, or by event type
* See dog birthdays automatically without manual entry
* Mark events as complete when they're done
* Sync your BreederBuddy calendar to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or any app that supports iCal
* Recurring, timed, and all-day events are supported

## How It Works

### Adding an Event

1. Go to [**Calendar**](https://app.breederbuddy.com/calendar) in the left menu (under **Events**).
2. Click on a day (or drag across a time range in Week or Day view), or click **New Event**.
3. Fill in the **Title**, **Type**, and any **Description**. Check **All day** for events without a set time (you'll pick a **First Day** and **Last Day**), or set a **Start Time** and **End Time**.
4. Optionally use **Associate With** to link the event to a specific dog or litter.
5. Tick **Email Reminder?** to get an email before the event, or **Recurring Event?** to repeat it every so many days, weeks, months, or years.
6. Save — the event appears on the calendar.

### Completing an Event

When an event is done, mark it complete:

1. Click the event on the calendar.
2. Select **Complete** on the card that pops up.
3. The event is logged as completed. Health-related events can create a health record for the dog (or every puppy in the litter) at the same time.

### Syncing to an External Calendar

BreederBuddy can sync your events to any calendar app that supports iCal (Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook, etc.):

1. Click **Sync to Calendar** on the Calendar page.
2. Tap **Apple Calendar**, **Google Calendar** or **Outlook**. Your calendar app opens and asks you to confirm the subscription. This works the same on an iPhone, iPad, Mac or PC.
3. Using a different app? Choose **Copy the link** and add it to that app as a subscribed calendar.

Events from BreederBuddy then appear in your calendar and stay updated. Apple Calendar usually picks up changes within an hour; Google and Outlook can take several hours.

If you ever share the link by mistake, the account admin can choose **Reset link** in the same window. Calendars using the old link stop updating, so subscribe again with the new one.

### Showing Only Some Events (Like Due Dates)

1. On the [**Calendar**](https://app.breederbuddy.com/calendar), find the **Show on calendar** panel beside the calendar. On a phone, tap **Filters** to open it.
2. Untick every type you don't want to see. For example, to see only due dates, leave just **Est. Whelpings** ticked under **Breeding**.
3. To focus on one dog or litter, pick it in the dropdown at the top of the panel (it starts on **Everything**).
4. Click **Show all** to bring everything back.

### Event Colors

Each event's color comes from its **Type** (for example **Medical**, **Litter**, **Business**, or **Pickup**). The colored dot next to each type in the **Show on calendar** panel is its color key. To change an event's color, open it and pick a different **Type**. You can't choose your own custom colors.

### Repeating Events (Monthly or Yearly Care)

For care that repeats forever, like monthly heartworm or a yearly vaccine:

1. Click **New Event** and fill in the **Title** and **Type**.
2. Use **Associate With** to link it to the dog.
3. Tick **Recurring Event?**.
4. Set **Repeat every** (for example, 1) and **Frequency** (for example, **Month(s)** or **Year(s)**).
5. Optionally set **When should it stop repeating?**, and tick **Email Reminder?** if you want an email each time.
6. Save. The event repeats on the calendar.

### Follow-Up Reminders After a Health Record

When you log a vaccine, deworming, test, or vet visit, BreederBuddy offers to create a follow-up reminder. Click **Yes, Create Follow-up** and an event opens with a suggested date:

| Health record | Suggested follow-up |
| - | - |
| Deworming | 2 weeks later |
| Vaccination | 1 year later |
| Test | 1 year later |
| Veterinarian appointment | 1 year later |
| Anything else | 6 months later |

These suggestions can't be changed in Settings, but you can change the date on each follow-up before you save it. For a puppy series (for example, boosters 3 weeks apart), just pick the right date. **Start Time** is when the reminder appears on your calendar, and **End Time** is when it ends (it only affects how long the block looks). If you tick **Email Reminder?**, the email is timed from the **Start Time**.

Skipped it? Click the calendar-plus button next to any health record to create a follow-up later.

### Dog Birthdays

BreederBuddy automatically adds dog birthdays to your calendar based on each dog's date of birth. You can turn them on or off with the **Birthdays** checkbox in the Calendar's filter panel.

### Go-Home Days

Every litter's go-home day is on the calendar automatically: "Autumn puppies go home" on the litter's go-home date, or on the estimate from its birth date until you set one (marked **est.**). A puppy with its own go-home date gets its own entry. These rows follow the litter and the puppy, so change the date there and the calendar moves with it; they can't be dragged. They also come through to Google Calendar and Apple Calendar with the rest of your feed.

## Tips & Common Questions

> **Can I see events for a specific dog or litter?**
>
> Yes — events tied to a dog or litter also appear on their individual profile pages under the **Events** tab.

> **Do events from Care Schedules show up here?**
>
> Yes. When you apply a care schedule to a litter or dog, each task becomes its own event on the litter's or dog's **Events** tab and on the main Calendar. After that they're normal events: edit, complete, or delete them one by one. See [Care Schedules](https://breederbuddy.com/docs/features/care-operations/care-schedules.md).

> **Can I set reminders?**
>
> Yes. Tick **Email Reminder?** when creating or editing an event and choose when to **Send the reminder**, from at the event time up to a week before. The email goes to your account address. You can also sync your calendar to an app like Google Calendar for its notifications.

> **Why can't I move some bars on the calendar?**
>
> Heat cycles, fertile windows, estimated whelping dates, whelping watch, birthdays, and go-home days follow the records they come from. Change the underlying record (the heat cycle, the litter's breeding date or go-home date, or the dog's date of birth) and the calendar updates on its own.

> **Why don't I see my events on my phone's calendar right away?**
>
> Subscribed calendars refresh on your calendar app's schedule, not instantly. Google and Apple Calendar can take a while to pick up new or changed BreederBuddy events. The BreederBuddy calendar itself is always current.
